Key Tracking Software

Key tracking software typically works in conjunction with a physical key control system, using technology to log and manage the use of vehicle keys. Often keys are stored in a smart cabinet with the software recording when a key is removed or returned and by whom (via PIN code, fingerprint, or access card). The software can produce reports of key usage – for example, how many test drives happened and by which salespeople, or alert if a key has been checked out for too long (perhaps someone forgot to return it). For dealership security, this digital record is useful in investigating any incidents (like if a car is found with extra mileage or damage, the key log shows who had it last). In Canada, given the high cost of vehicles, theft prevention via key control is important (cases have occurred where thieves steal keys from showrooms to later steal cars). The software often also tracks spare keys and can remind when keys need to be reassigned if vehicles are moved to another lot or dealership. With integration, sales managers can possibly see from their computer if a car is currently out on a test drive. Key tracking software improves accountability among staff and ensures a smoother sales process (no scrambling to find where the key went). It’s part of modern inventory control and loss prevention.
