The software manages the calendar for the service department: it takes into account the number of technicians available, each technician’s skills (e.g., hybrid certified, diesel specialist), the length of time required for each type of service (an oil change vs. a brake job), and even resources like loaner vehicles or specific equipment. In a Canadian context, the software might also allow seasonal scheduling features – for example, handling the rush for winter tire change-over by distributing appointments in a way that maximizes daily throughput. It sends reminders to customers via email or SMS (important for reducing no-shows, especially if people booked far in advance). For the dealership, a scheduling system prevents overbooking (which causes long wait times) and underbooking (which leaves technicians idle). By smoothing out the workflow, it increases customer satisfaction (they get in and out as expected) and shop efficiency (steady work for techs without bottlenecks). Integration with the DMS ensures that when a customer is booked, their vehicle history is accessible at check-in and any recommended services are flagged, further driving after-sales revenue.
