Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security practice requiring users to provide two forms of verification before accessing an account or system. Typically, this means something you know (password) plus something you have (a temporary code on a smartphone app or sent via text) or something you are (fingerprint, though that’s less common in dealership software). By implementing 2FA on systems like the dealership’s DMS, CRM, or email, Canadian dealerships add a significant layer of protection. Even if a password is compromised (say an employee falls for a phishing email), the account remains secure because the attacker would also need the second factor. Dealership IT policies are increasingly mandating 2FA for remote access or any system containing sensitive customer data, aligning with best practices to prevent unauthorized access and potential data breaches.
