EV charging connector types are the different plug standards electric vehicles use to connect to chargers, and knowing them is essential for advising Canadian EV buyers. For everyday Level 1 and Level 2 charging, most non-Tesla vehicles in North America use the J1772 connector, while Tesla vehicles use their own connector and adapters. For DC fast charging, common standards include CCS, which builds on J1772 with added pins, and the older CHAdeMO found on some models, while the North American Charging Standard is being adopted more widely across the industry. A vehicle can typically use only the connectors it was built to support, sometimes with an adapter.
