What is DNCL (National Do Not Call List)?
The National Do Not Call List, or DNCL, is a registry Canadians can join to reduce unwanted telemarketing calls. Administered under CRTC rules, it requires telemarketers, including dealerships making sales calls, to subscribe to the list and avoid calling registered numbers unless an exemption applies. Exemptions exist for calls to people with an existing business relationship, such as a recent customer, but these are time-limited and must be documented. A dealership that calls a registered number without a valid exemption risks complaints and monetary penalties. Practically, this means your BDC and sales teams must scrub call lists against the DNCL and rely on tracked consent or a documented business relationship. Recording call consent and relationship history in your CRM is the simplest way to stay compliant and audit-ready.
