What is Multi-Point Inspection?

A multi-point inspection is a standardized check of a vehicle's key systems performed by a service technician, usually during a maintenance visit. The technician reviews items such as brakes, tires, fluids, belts, hoses, battery, lights, and suspension, then reports the condition of each using a simple format like green for good, yellow for monitor, and red for needs attention. For dealerships, the multi-point inspection serves two purposes: it protects the customer by catching safety and maintenance issues early, and it identifies legitimate additional service the customer may want to approve. Presenting inspection results transparently, ideally with photos or video, builds trust and increases approved work honestly. Documenting the inspection and any declined recommendations in the service system also creates valuable follow-up opportunities. A consistent multi-point inspection process is a cornerstone of a healthy, trustworthy fixed-operations department.
