A powertrain warranty covers the components that make a vehicle move, primarily the engine, transmission, and drivetrain parts such as the axles and driveshaft. It is one of the most important coverages for a buyer because powertrain repairs are among the most expensive. Factory powertrain warranties typically run longer than bumper-to-bumper coverage, and extended or aftermarket powertrain plans can continue that protection after the original warranty expires.
